Past Perfect

February 27, 2017 | by Stephen Silveira

Interiors that are ‘past perfect’ or individual pieces of furniture that are ‘aged perfect’ represent tried and true design principles that give a home soul.  At Alpine Home they are principles we fully embrace.

We have added “Past Perfect” (Rizzoli), by Richard Shapiro and “Modern Pastoral” (CICO Books) by Niki Brantmark to our Design library.  Shapiro is an LA based antiquarian that has turned his pacific coast house into a timeworn Mediterranean villa, and Brantmark an author showcasing how signature vintage pieces of furniture can be artfully showcased in today’s homes.  Take a peak in our book nook next time you are in the store.

I am always looking for distinctive, vintage pieces that have a global perspective.  I have some new finds I purchased in February which should be in the store by mid- March.

This double door chest is from India. The size and scale would work equally well in a mountain home living room or bedroom. The carving, hardware and patina are unique. Great character.

Intricately carved wall panels were another unique find. I purchased these double panels which could be stacked side by side or one on top of another. Architectural elements are a great way to add interest and detail. I also purchased a long wall panel and smaller wall panel with a soft aqua glaze.

Soft aqua glaze panel is shown at left and detail from floor length panel at right.

Among my favorite vintage finds were the two Asian chests above. The original paint on these pieces features a wonderful aqua glaze . I plan to use these as bed side chests in the showroom . The wall panel top left should work beautifully with the grouping.

Numerous smaller accessories were added to my container purchase; including gathering baskets and bowls

Featured on these inset pictures are vases from Peru that are wonderfully graphic and modern,

Also featured: vintage Indian carved brackets are mounted on iron stands. The carving features fantastic bird-lie creatures.

Among my finds were some amazing A small African accessories and textiles. The Senufo stool is a designer favorite, and great pull up to a coffee table in a mountain modern home…..also the ebonized and carved drum table.

The long wall panels will make graphic textile wall art and I envision added the black and white tribal textiles to our new Ralph Lauren Palm Collection inspired bedding collection.
